Position Overview

We’re seeking an experienced, hands-on Systems Engineering Manager to work closely with our engineering team and CEO to design, build, and iterate Deteqt’s first-generation quantum magnetometry product. Your role will be to translate product needs into engineering workplans.

You’ll lead system-level prototyping efforts—integrating optics, electronics, and embedded software—while laying the foundations for scalable product development and a high-performing engineering team.

You’ll play a vital role in turning advanced research into practical, scalable solutions, contributing to applications in navigation, biomedical imaging, and beyond.

About DeteQt

We are developing a patented diamond-on-silicon sensing technology that has the potential to completely transform our ability to see and understand the world. We are not the only ones that see this potential – we are backed by AU and US deep tech venture capital investors and have major development partners in navigation, mineral exploration and imaging of the human body.

Our solid-state quantum magnetometer combines chip-scale manufacturability, high-sensitivity and low size, weight, and power. The sensor exploits the quantum properties of nitrogen-vacancy doped diamond with an integrated CMOS chip that enables magnetic field sensing, crucial for magnetic navigation, anomaly detection, subterranean imaging and medical diagnostics.

Key Responsibilities

Build the prototype: Build the first-generation quantum magnetometry product prototype including overall system design, component selection and testing, optical / electronic / software integration, and other aspects
Testing: Conduct design reviews, simulations, and experimental tests for system components, including sensor arrays, control electronics, and integration systems
Program management: Establish practical, fit-for-purpose and sustainable technical program management processes, documentation and reporting frameworks.
Documentation: Create clarity around product goals and priorities through exceptional documentation, task management, and stakeholder updates.
Collaboration: Collaborate closely with physics, engineering, and management to ensure delivery excellence.
Budgets and resourcing: Allocate resources and manage budget across projects to deliver milestones, identifying the people, material, manufacturing, and other costs required for delivery
Manage risks and unblock: Proactively identify risks and resolve roadblocks, always keeping delivery timelines at the forefront

Qualifications

Australian citizenship (DeteQt work with the Australian Defence Force)
System design engineering.
Demonstrated success in end-to-end prototype design and build.
Expertise in product engineering design, technical design and reporting and engineering project/program management.
Outstanding project management skills in a highly technical build
Excellent communication skills.
Strong team player with the proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
